Meet Our Coaches
Mischa Harris
Mischa has been involved with volleyball his entire life, as a player, coach, athletic trainer, strength & conditioning coach and researcher. His previous experience playing for the UBC Thunderbirds and Team Canada Beach Volleyball allow him to bring a player’s perspective to all of his coaching and training. Mischa has spent the past few years coaching beach volleyball for Team BC and Team Canada. He recently coached the Canadians to a 9th place finish at the 2009 U19 Beach Volleyball World Championships in Turkey.
Throughout the year Mischa is working on his MSc in Experimental Medicine at UBC, investigating injury prevention in athletics. Mischa also works as the athletic trainer and assistant coach for the 2 time defending National Champion UBC Women’s Volleyball Team. Additionally, he is the President of Sideout Fitness Inc. – a volleyball specific training company. Mischa is a CSEP-Certified Exercise Physiologist, CSEP-Certified Personal Trainer, NSCA-Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist and an NCCP Level 2 (In Training) Beach Volleyball Coach.

Kyra Ianonne
Kyra has been coaching Beach Volleyball for the past seven years on both on the provincial and national level. Her current athletes range from recreational to National and International levels. In 2007, Kyra attended her first FIVB Youth World Championships in Poland coaching the Team Canada U19 Men. More recently she has been involved with both the Youth and Junior divisions of Team Canada Beach Volleyball. This past summer, both of Kyra’s 2009 teams earned 9th place finishes at the 2009 U19/U21 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships. This past summer Kyra coached the Team BC men to a U22 Bronze Medal at the 2009 Canada Summer Games. In 2006 and 2008 Kyra led her teams to the BC Summer Games in Kamloops and Kelowna, bringing home Gold and Silver podium finishes respectively. Throughout the school year Kyra is a Physical Education teacher and a highly successful indoor volleyball coach for the Semiahmoo Sr. Boys.
In the five years she has coached Semi she has led her team to 2 Golds, a Silver, and a Bronze medal BC School Sports Provincial Championships. Kyra is a certified Level 3 beach volleyball coach and is quickly earning herself a reputation on the provincial, national and international stages as a coach who always demands the best of her players and herself.

Steve Marshall
Steve is going into his first summer of head coaching, he has been involved in assistant coaching with indoor club teams over the last 3 years through Fraser Valley Volleyball Club. Steve has had a large amount of elite level competition which has given him plenty of knowledge and insight into the beach game, and is passionate about passing on that knowledge to younger athletes. He has been involved in volleyball for 7 years. Playing for 17U Team BC Indoor, and attending Douglas College, before moving on to Trinity Western University. In beach Steve has played for Team BC Beach 18U as well as representing BC at the Canada Summer Games in 2009 finishing 3rd. On the International level Steve represented Canada at the Youth
World Championships in 2007 in Poland and again at the Junior World Championships in England, finishing 9th. He has been on the Canadian Beach National Team for the past 3 years, and spent the 2010 summer competing on the NORCECA Tour and FIVB World Tour. Steve is attending Trinity Western where he is majoring in Human Kinetics. He is a Level 2(c) NCCP Beach Volleyball Coach
Nick Del Bianco
Nick has been part of the Beach Volleyball scene since he represented Team BC when he was 15 years old. He has devoted his time to becoming among the best beach volleyball players for his age in Canada and the World. Now in his 5th year of playing Beach Volleyball, his top finishes include two national titles at both U16 and U18, along with two top ten finishes at the U19 World Championships at 9th and 4th place. When the weather is not nice enough to play beach, he is studying Human Kinetics at Trinity Western University while playing on their Mens Volleyball team. His interest in the development of youth volleyball has been with him for years and he started putting this interest into place last summer by running Sideout Beach volleyball camps and tournaments. He is extremely excited to be elected as one of Sideout’s head coaches this summer and can’t wait to start. Nick brings a great knowledge of the beach volleyball game; provincial, national, and
international experience, and a love for teaching and developing others. Currently Nick is a Level 2(c) NCCP Beach Volleyball Coach. His plans for this include head coaching for Sideout Beach and giving his athletes the skills and mindset needed to go far in beach volleyball, along with placing first at Western Canada Games, Nationals, and the World Championships. He is excited for this summer and for the challenges to come.
Ben Chow
Ben has been playing indoor and beach volleyball for the past 5 years. Currently playing for the UBC mens volleyball team, he spent his club volleyball years with Fraser Valley Volleyball Club, and his high school seasons at Fleetwood Park Secondary. On the sand Ben has travelled to the Youth World Championships in Turkey and competed in many local men’s tournaments. Some highlights include placing 9th at the world championships and winning the U18 national championships. Ben has been coaching beach volleyball for
the past 2 years under Kyra and Mischa through Sideout Beach. He is extremely excited to coach and develop younger athletes in beach volleyball. Ben is a Level 2(c) NCCP Beach Volleyball Coach.
