Tryout Dates for the Sideout Beach 2012 High Performance Team RELEASED!

We are very happy to announce that after a successful season in 2011 including numerous Provincial titles and 5 medals from Canadian Beach Nationals, our Sideout Beach High Performance Team will be running in full force again this year!

Tryouts will be held at the Six Pack Indoor Beach Centre (115-13180 Mitchell Road,, Richmond, BC V6V 1M8) on the following dates:

Sunday, November 27th: 5-8pm

Sunday, December 4th: 6:30-9 pm

Monday, December 12th: 5:30 – 8pm

All 3 tryouts are mandatory to be considered for selection to the High Performance team – special considerations may be made under extenuating circumstances.

Fee: $75 for all 3 tryouts.

We’re looking forward to seeing more new faces on the beach to get ready for another great summer season!

Vancouver’s new ‘twin power’: Sideout Athletes Megan and Nicole McNamara

This year, our B.C. beach volleyball athletes showed Canada what they were made of at the 2011 Nationals in Toronto, Ontario. The performances by both the male and female Sideout Beach athletes were outstanding– a well-deserved reward for months of tough training and competitions! We are so proud of everyone who was able to participate in Nationals as all of the athletes showed enormous talent and drive. Check out these results highlights:

Western Canada Summer Games and BC Provincial Results are in!

The Western Canada Summer Games, one of Canada’s premiere multi-sport events, was a huge success this summer in Kamloops as Team BC once again returned home with the Games Trophy for the most Flag Points. The Games provided an excellent opportunity for many of our Sideout Beach athletes to play against some of the most talented volleyball players in Western Canada. A huge congratulations to Nick Del Bianco and Ben Chow on Team BC for their GOLD medal win! Also, congrats to Sideout athletes Alyssa Wolf and Denise Wooding for their Team BC SILVER medal at the Games!

Sideout Beach players also had some outstanding results at this year’s Provincial Championships. Here are some of the results highlights:

Sideout Athletes Shine at the Vancouver Open

Last weekend from July 14-17th was the 2011 Vancouver Open at Kits Beach, the 20th anniversary of an event that showcases top national and international volleyball athletes. The competition was amazing this year, and the results show Sideout Beach athletes placed better than ever. A huge congratulations to Steve Marshall and partner Matt Zbyszewski who placed 2nd in the Men’s Category– Way to go, Boys!!

Also, congratulations to the following Sideout Beach athletes that finished with these outstanding results:

U16 Boys: Devon Dunn and Zac Or with Gold; Mackenzie Satterfield and George Thompson with Bronze

U16 Girls: Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara with Gold

U14 Girls: Darby Dunn and Tamara Clarke with Gold

Sideout Beach Athlete and Coach Chosen to be the B.C. Flag Bearer!

Sideout Beach Athlete Nick Del Bianco is about to do something that many local young athletes dream of: carry his province’s flag at the opening ceremonies of the Canada Western Summer Games August 5th in Kamloops, B.C.

Bianco has been chosen from thousands of young athletes to represent B.C. in a way in which he describes as “…truly honourable.” At only 19 years old, Nick has already made quite a name for himself in both the National and International volleyball community. In 2009, he won Gold at a youth beach volleyball tournament in Switzerland, and placed fourth at the U19 World volleyball championships in Portugal last year. He currently plays for Trinity Western University and helped the Spartans win the Canadian Interuniversity Sport national championship. Bianco and his beach partner Ben Chow are hoping to represent Canada this summer in the U21 world championships in Halifax.

Despite his busy training schedule, Nick also spends at least 20 hours a week coaching for Sideout Beach Weekly Training Programs that run throughout B.C. in the summer. He is an integral member of the Sideout community and constantly strives to share his passion and skill with eager young volleyball players.

Nick was chosen to be the provincial flag bearer last week by Ida Chong, Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development. We know he will fulfill this role with pride and honour as he represents the thousands of other young athletes that share his passion for competition and sport.

Well done, Nick– a well deserved accomplishment.

This past weekend was filled with Volleyball and some truly outstanding results from our Sideout Beach players!

Sideout Beach athletes Nick Del Bianco and Steve Marshall won the Sylvan Lake John Marshall Open Pro Tournament in Alberta. Way to go, guys! Check out the pics below:

Also, Darby Dunn and Tamara Clarke placed first in the U14 Category in the Volleyball BC tournament this weekend. Shayla Stausgaard and Tessa Neil placed 1st place in U15 and U16 while Mackenzie Satterfield and George Thompson recieved a 2nd place in U18!! GREAT WORK AND CONGRATS TO OUR SIDEOUT ATHLETES!

Kyra Iannone, the Province’s High School Coach of the Year

Sideout Beach is exceptionally proud to have our own Boy’s Head Coach Kyra Iannone win the prestigious high school “Coach of the Year” contest through the Province newspaper. Kyra is one of those special coaches who is able to give so much to everyone that plays for her, so it’s no surprise that she had an overwhelming number of supporters when voting opened up for the contest.

Congratulations Kyra, you’ve been coach of year to everyone at Sideout Beach for many years but now it’s finally official and in print!
